Declutter your life and reclaim your space!

Organization solutions tailored to you.

If you have found my website, chances are that you are wanting to make some big changes and have made the bold decision to ask for help. Well done, you!

Downsizing

If your big change is downsizing so that you can move to a more manageable space, or you simply need to feel more free in the space you are in, I am here for you! Maybe you have already tried to do this job alone, or with family and friends but have become overwhelmed. That is very normal and understandable. Sometimes having a person come in from outside your regular life to help can make all the difference. My clients say that I help them to relax and not judge themselves.

Assisted Living

Maybe you have made the big decision to move to assisted living. Or maybe it's your loved one who is needing to make this move and you are helping them. Going from a home filled with decades of belongings to a small apartment is a daunting task for anyone. If there are also health problems or mobility concerns present then it's even more challenging.

But Don't Worry, Please

I make the process simple!

Hello and Welcome!

Shelly McGee

Shelly McGee

About Me
My background is in gerontology and working with people with special needs, particularly those with executive functioning and processing disorders, like ADHD. I began working professionally as an organizer in 2016 in College Station, Texas. My family moved to North Carolina in 2019. We live in North Durham near The Museum of Life and Science. We enjoy visiting historical sites and old time diners.

Who I Work With
My favorite people in the world are artistic folks. They tend to find me when in need of organizing because they know I understand and like them tremendously. I guide them gently towards order but only because it will make them happier and more productive. A lot of my clients have ADHD, or at least they suspect they may have it. Some of them have mobility issues, but it doesn't stop them from being successful at organizing. A comfy chair for them, and I bring them small boxes to sort and we get the job done!

The process is simple. I will guide you through it every step of the way.

The Meet and Greet

This is where we talk about what you need. I will ask you questions about your space, your goals and your timeline. I will listen and take notes. If you want to, we can walk through the house at this time. This gives you an opportunity to talk through what you want while looking at the space. I will take pictures from each doorway and window. This is so you have before/after pictures. Usually takes 1 to 2 hours.

Making the Plan

This is where we draw up a plan on paper. The plan is always open for change and adjustments according to what you need. The point is to create a mental image of the process, so that there is momentum and motivation. I support you and will help you make it work. Usually takes 1 to 2 hours (3 hours if also visiting space at assisted living to measure).

Keeping, Giving, Storing, Donating, Discarding

These are the categories of downsizing. Everything is sorted into one of these categories. This is where we will spend most of our time. We can sort room by room. Or we can sort according to category. The ideal session time is 3 hours. But we can work 12 hours at once if requested. The timeline on this part of the process is dependent on speed of decision making. It helps to spend the first 10 minutes of our time each session to make a session goal. This helps us stay focused and also gives something to celebrate when we achieve it! I will take a picture before and after at each session. Pictures taken are yours alone. Nobody sees these but you and whoever you personally want to see them.

Client Reviews

"Your organizing skills and ability to outline the day’s plan and expected outcomes were particularly easy to understand and decreased my usual frustration with sorting. We often accomplished our goals and more. Your flexibility with my need to rest and not lift allowed us to complete much on my ultimate to do list. We often commented on how easy it was to work with each other, sharing ideas and strategies and adapting when needed. The whole process was positive and FUN. I'm so glad I worked with you at this time in my health journey and hope to continue in the future."

Bev

"Fantastic work! Shelly has a great personality, no judgements on how messy your space has become. Very flexible and down to earth. She will be kind to your things!"

Katina

"Shelly has an eye for organizing. A year ago she organized our pantry and kitchen cabinets. My husband and I were over the moon about how easy it was to access and locate various items in our kitchen. To this day neither of us have asked each other where something is. Everything has its place and we've been able to easily keep it this way. I appreciate Shelly's talent and was so glad to use her service!"
